5.9 Quake Jolts Japan, shakes Tokyo
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit northeastern and eastern Japan and shook Tokyo on Saturday. The quake was centred off the coast of Fukushima prefecture in northeastern Japan about 240 km northeast of Tokyo.
South Korea Jolted by Strongest Earthquake Yet
The strongest earthquake to ever hit South Korea took place Saturday evening sending minor tremors across the country, with its epicenter in the sea off Uljin, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said. Measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, the quake occurred at 7:14 p.m. Saturday about 80 kilometers east of Uljin, KMA officials said. Uljin of North Gyeongsang Province is about 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
